A place where people can drop in and instantly find volunteer opportunities that are right for them.
What problem or issue does your idea address?
Volunteering isn't usually seen as "a fun thing to do on a Friday night." Perhaps with a structure like this, it can be. There really isn't a centralized place where you can find all the volunteer oppertunites in your area. If you need help, there isn't a phsycal ares where you can ask for it.
Dane County United Way has an (online) volunteer center. http://www.volunteersolutions.org/uwdc/volunteer/ You could talk to them about getting an actual physical presence for the volunteer center.
UW Madison also has the Community Service Committee that you could join. I don't think you have to be a student. http://union.wisc.edu/communityservice/
I'm the Program Manager for the newly formed Altruism Research Foundation. My general goal is to make the world a better place whatever it takes. This blog if for those that share or want to share a similar destiny.

UW has a place called "The Morgridge Center" with a large collection of volunteer opportunities/resources. It's a nice place.
